To ensure an individualized approach in facial aesthetics, Galderma uses the AART methodology:
- ASSESSMENT – Identify patients’ needs and define improvement areas
- ANATOMY – Consider the underlying anatomy
- RANGE – Understand the properties, uses, and science behind each available product
- TREATMENT – Translate patient priorities into Holistic Individualized Treatments (HITs)

Dr. Andreas Nikolis explains the importance of applying the AART methodology in your clinic.
Assessment
Benefits for consultation1
- Ensures facial assessment is systematic, standardized and covers the entire face
- Allows the patient to participate in their own treatment plan, making them more likely to opt for combination treatments
- Simplifies the evolution of the treatment plan for the patient
- Empowers you to lead a structured consultation, with an easy-to-follow process and support materials that can be applied online and in-person
- Increases patient satisfaction, which leads to loyalty to your clinic and referral to new patients

Anatomy
The face is generally organized into five different layers:2
- Skin
- Connective
- Aponeurosis
- Loose connective tissue
- Periosteum
This is the general alignment, but there are facial regions where this differs, for example:2
- 3 layers in the infraorbital region
- 9 layers in the temporal region

Common trouble spots on the aged face:2
Glabellar region
Vertical and horizontal wrinkles due to aging of orbicularis oculi muscles, procerus, corrugator supercilii, and depressor supercilii muscles
Retro-orbicularis oculi fat (ROOF) compartment
Sagging due to changes in underlying bone and laxity of the orbicularis oculi muscle, orbicularis retaining ligament, and frontalis muscle
Suborbicularis oculi fat (SOOF) compartment
At medial boundary, tear trough ligament formed by merging of the zygomatic and the orbicularis retaining ligaments. Inferior boundary is zygomatic ligament and is partially responsible for appearance of malar mounds
Nasolabial sulcus
Formed by the traction of the underlying facial expression muscles and overlying superficial nasolabial fat compartment
Mandibular ligament
Attachment point for skin and other structure to bone. Jowl deformity here due to inferior migration of fat compartments
Regardless of age, it is critical to remember the vasculature of the face when using established injection practices. Avoiding adverse events such as vascular compromise and tissue necrosis is of utmost importance for patients and the facial aesthetic field overall.3

Treatment
To achieve results as unique as your patients, their concerns must be translated
into individualized treatment plans.
Holistic Individualized Treatments (HITs)
Galderma has developed Holistic Individualized Treatments (HITs) - a patient-centric approach for prioritizing the right combination of products in each treatment area:
- Bright Eyes
- Glow On
- Kiss & Smile
- Shape Up
- Balanced Profile
Hear from the experts
Dr. Christoph Martschin walks through each of the HITs and what patient types will benefit from each combination.
Bright Eyes
5 out of 6 identify the eye area as their highest facial concern regardless of age34
70% feel they look tired and older due to under-eye shadows34
Bright Eyes HIT
The Bright Eyes HIT addresses tear trough deformity and smooths wrinkles around the eyes. Two people may have the same concern for their eye area, such as looking ‘tired, grumpy, aged’. But the cause may differ, so an individualized solution approach is needed.

Kiss & Smile HIT
The Kiss and Smile HIT is a framework designed to enhance the lips and perioral area. For some, this may include treatment for lack of/loss of lip volume or lines and wrinkles that impact the lips and lower face impression, such as, barcodes and marionette lines. For others, this may also include improving the periocular area by treating lateral canthal lines with neuromodulators.
